Jennifer M. Cainas, DBA, CPA, is a clinical professor at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy within the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida, where she has taught since 2005.  Dr. Cainas primarily teaches introductory financial and managerial accounting courses in large, mass lecture classes and an asynchronous web-based course for managerial accounting.  She also has experience teaching upper level accounting courses including Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Accounting Information Systems.  In 2017 she was asked to develop a doctoral-level survey course on best practices for college teaching that is offered each summer through the Muma College of Business.

Dr. Cainas is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  During her teaching career, she has taught and mentored over 15,000 business students and has won numerous teaching awards at the college, university, and state level, most recently being honored with the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award at the University of South Florida (2018), and received the inaugural Outstanding Teaching Award given by the Muma College of Business (2017).  Dr. Cainas is also the faculty advisor for the Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi and received the national outstanding faculty advisor award sponsored by RSM in 2013.  She regularly presents at AAA regional and annual meetings, as well as being an invited speaker for several teaching symposiums in the State of Florida.   

Dr. Cainas received her Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Florida, and her Master’s Degree of Accountancy and her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of South Florida.  Her research interests include managerial controls and cybersecurity issues for entrepreneurial companies, supply chain fraud, data analytics, and issues related to accounting education. She is currently the co-author of a managerial accounting textbook that will be released in 2020.  Prior to teaching, Dr. Cainas was a practicing accountant, working for several Fortune 500 companies throughout her professional career, specializing in financial reporting and analysis.
